I’m sure you’ve heard of affirmations before. Their use has been around for many years for everything from better health to more wealth, increased self confidence, and more, including for stress relief. Almost any problem you can experience can benefit from the right affirmation. So why do they work?
They work on the premise that the thoughts you dwell on create your mood and life experience. If the thoughts running through your head are constantly negative, your experiences in life will be more negative than positive. I’m sure you’ve also heard of the Law of Attraction. Basically the Law of Attraction says that what you think about is what you get. It may not be what you want, but it is what you are thinking about so it’s what becomes real in your life.
For example, if your financial situation is a cause of your stress, then thinking about how little money you have won’t help for stress relief. That style of thinking actually works against you by attracting more financial problems. Have you ever noticed that several unexpected expenses come up all at the same time? On a deep subconscious level, your thinking is bringing these things to the surface all at once. And it’s really hard to change your thinking!
Affirmations help you change the pattern of your thoughts. Instead of dwelling on thoughts like:
- I don’t have enough money
- I won’t be able to pay my bills this month
- I will never get out of debt
Think affirmations to change your thinking instead:
- All the money I need flows into my life
- My bills always get paid on time
- Abundance and prosperity are part of my life
Most people when they start to use affirmations say: “But I don’t believe it, how can it work?” That’s part of the process of changing your thinking. You may not know how the money will flow into your life or how abundance will manifest itself, but somehow it just happens. One day you’ll think to yourself: “Hey, my bills did get paid on time this month!” And when you reach that point, you’re on the uphill stretch that takes you from negative to positive and things just keep getting better.
There are a lot of books available to help you learn about the Law of Attraction and positive affirmations. Here are a few I recommend:
This is the original book.
Jack Canfield’s Key to Living the Law of Attraction
You know Jack Canfield from his amazingly successful Chicken Soup for the Soul series of books.
This very popular movie is based on the Law of Attraction in action. It’s available on DVD and instant download.
And I found this really cool 99¢ Kindle book which puts a different and funny twist on the negative thoughts in our heads. It definitely makes me smile. (If you don’t have a Kindle you can get one when you look at the book’s description. They have really come down in price recently. Or you can download a free Kindle Reading app to read it on your PC or another device.)
So try some affirmations for stress relief and see what results you can get. It can only help!
