I have found that stress relief can be achieved by the simple act of taking action! One of the side effects of stress is it paralyzes you. You don’t know where to turn, what to do, how to get relief. You just want to go back to bed and pull the covers over your head. Just the simple step of taking some form of action can be the answer you need.
As I’ve mentioned in another post, being able to identify the source of your stress is extremely helpful. When you have an idea of what is holding you back, then you can take specific action to get the stress relief you need.
But what if you can’t figure it out? What if it’s not that simple to identify? Then just taking any type of action can really help. Doing something concrete can get you up and moving. It can break that paralysis and get you in a more positive frame of mind. From there it’s easier to move forward in your life and perhaps identify the source of your stress.
Usually I find doing something I’ve been procrastinating about gives me the best stress relief. Even if what I do doesn’t have anything to do with what is stressing me, the action helps. I feel like I’ve accomplished something at the end of my day. I feel more in control and of course one hard to do thing is crossed off my list.
So try it for yourself. When you feel stuck and need some stress relief right now, take action! It’s the best enemy of stress I know.
